Year 5 & 6 South Island Camp, Curious Cove Information

This is the second and final information email for the Year 5 and 6 senior camp to Curious Cove in the Marlborough Sounds.

The Year 5 and 6 camp will take place from Monday 27 November - Friday 1 December 2017 (Week 7, Term 4). The location for this camp will be Kiwi Ranch - Curious Cove. We will be staying here.


Travel:

We will be travelling by ferry between Wellington and Picton. The ferry will depart Wellington at 8:00am on Monday 27 November, so we ask students and parents to be at the Bluebridge ferry terminal (50 Waterloo Quay) at 6:30am. Our return ferry to Wellington should arrive at the Bluebridge ferry terminal at 5:30pm on Friday 1 December. Please be at the ferry terminal (50 Waterloo Quay) to pick your child up at this time. To check that the ferry will arrive on time, you can phone 0800 844 844.

We will be travelling by launch boat to and from Curious Cove.

Camp Programme:

Activities have been planned with the Curious Cove camp coordinators to ensure the activities are age and ability appropriate. Below is the outline of the activities planned.

Monday - Travel by ferry and launch boat to Curious Cove. Settle in at camp and orientation. Time to explore the area, including a short walk.

*Please send your child with both morning tea and lunch today as this will not be provided at camp this day. We would also appreciate it if your child could bring baking, a bag of chips or a bag of fruit for shared morning and afternoon teas throughout the week.

Tuesday - Climb Mount Kahikitea. Camp activities over the afternoon and evening.

Wednesday - Launch trip - boat trip and walk part of Queen Charlotte Walkway / Camp activities rotation - kayaks, stilts, bouldering wall, orienteering. Camp activities over the afternoon and evening.

Thursday - Launch trip - boat trip and walk part of Queen Charlotte Walkway / Camp activities rotation - kayaks, stilts, bouldering wall, orienteering. Camp activities over the afternoon. Visit glow worms in the evening.

Friday - Camp pack up and final clean. Free play. Travel by launch boat and ferry back to Wellington.

*All activities will have the required number of adults monitoring students.

Camp Payment: Thank you all for making your payments.

Please note your child will not need any money for this trip as all activities will be at camp.

Adults on camp: We have nine adults staying at the camp for the whole week - Demelza, Georgia, Hazel, Angela, Bobby, Duncan, Garth, Richard, and Rob. We will also have an extra parent staying from Wednesday to Friday - Rachel.

Contact Information: The main contact person for this camp will be Demelza. Hazel or Georgia will be the next point of contact. Please be aware that cell reception is marginal, so the best form of contact with us is texting, as this means we can pick the messages up when we come into an area of reception. In the event of an emergency, please phone the camp office on (03) 573 6595.
