Planting Working Bee

In spite of a torrential downpour, the planting of the wetlands and the native bush area was completed on Friday. Thanks so much to all the parents and grandparents who took part. The students and staff were superb and very enthusiastic, but we really needed help digging the holes, especially around the native bush area where there was quite a layer of stones not too far beneath the surface which made digging the holes difficult work.

A HUGE thanks to the Wellington City Council who provided us with the plants, mulch, planting equipment and a Parks and Reserves Ranger for the day. This made what seemed like quite a big job very doable.

It was great having the students involved in the planting even though they got very muddy and wet. I am sure they will enjoy seeing the areas develop so much more as a result and I think they will take more responsibility for looking after the areas than if the areas were planted without their help.

All that remains is for the wetland planting to be mulched. Our caretaker, Jaco, will finish this off when more mulch arrives from the WCC.

Great work, everyone!
